Welcome to the Mayfest site!

Mayfest Larp is a family oriented Live action roleplay group based in Devon. The event has been run for a couple of decades and is known for its lighthearted outlook with accents on having fun and on roleplaying. There are now two events run each year, known as Mayfest and Augfest. Each generally run from the start of a Friday evening through to around midday the following Monday.

The style of the event is sword and sorcery with quite a bit of latitude in the 'eras' the characters come from so it is possible to meet with pointy hatted wizards, barbarian warriors and classical pirates. Even though there are creatures like those featured at the top of this page, children love it as they happily accept it is grown ups playing a dressing up game - and one that they can join in to as well!

There is one big difference between Mayfest and other systems. Mayfest is run by the players for the players. What that means is that plots are reactive to what players do rather than forcing players down a set course of actions, everyone plays, everyone helps out and that there is no paid crew. This in turn helps keep the cost down. That in turn helps families, students and others on low incomes to afford the festivals. In spite of there being no paid crew the folk who voluntarily manage the different tasks know what they are doing and the result is as good, if not better, than many of the professionally run events.
